Fox News Once Cared Deeply About Energy Jobs
For many years, Fox News focused heavily on energy jobs. It raised alarms about job losses in coal, oil, and fracking. The network used those job numbers to criticize clean energy policies and support fossil fuels. When the Keystone XL pipeline got canceled, Fox News said thousands of workers would lose their jobs. They claimed it would hurt families and raise gas prices.
During elections, they highlighted how fracking jobs could affect votes in states like Pennsylvania. Fox News often said clean energy would destroy the American way of life. They described coal miners as hardworking people under attack by government rules. Over and over, they told viewers that job loss in energy was a big threat.
“One Big Beautiful Bill” Threatens Over 800,000 Jobs
Now, things have changed. Donald Trump’s new budget plan, called the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” aims to cut clean energy tax credits. These credits were created in 2022 under the Inflation Reduction Act. They helped companies build solar panels, wind turbines, and electric vehicles.
Experts say removing these credits could cost the U.S. more than 800,000 jobs. Most of these jobs are in construction and factories. They involve building clean energy products like batteries, electric cars, and solar components. Surprisingly, the majority of these jobs are in Republican states. That means red states, which often support Trump, will lose the most.
Despite the huge number, Fox News has stayed mostly silent. Between May 22 and June 23, they aired 18 segments about the bill. None of them mentioned the job losses. This silence is strange, especially since the network usually focuses a lot on job numbers.
Fox News Reported Fossil Fuel Job Losses Loudly
Compare this to how Fox News once covered fossil fuel jobs. When the government canceled the Keystone XL pipeline, the network shouted about it. They repeated false job numbers and said it would harm the economy. Even though the project would have created only 50 long-term jobs, they said it would make millions.

They used similar tactics for coal. The network claimed Democrats were waging a “war on coal.” They blamed environmental rules for job cuts. But in truth, coal jobs began to shrink in the 1980s. Automation and cheaper energy sources did more damage than any policy. Still, Fox News ignored those facts and pushed the idea that clean energy was the enemy.
Fracking was another hot topic. Fox News often claimed that banning fracking would ruin state economies. They said it supported hundreds of thousands of jobs in Pennsylvania. But official data showed the number of gas industry jobs there was closer to 12,000. The network kept using big, scary numbers, even when they weren’t true.
This Time, Fox News Leaves Out Big Facts
Now that clean energy jobs are at risk, Fox News has changed its tone. Trump’s new bill would cut tax credits that help grow green energy. This move will likely kill hundreds of thousands of jobs and raise energy bills for families. One report says families could pay up to $400 more per year. But they haven’t talked about these numbers at all.
In some segments, they said a few Republicans weren’t fully supporting the bill. They hinted it was because of the clean energy credits. But they didn’t say why. They left out the job losses and the higher energy costs. This leaves viewers in the dark about how the bill could affect them.
Fox News once said clean energy would raise costs and destroy jobs. Now that those things are happening under a Republican plan, the network barely mentions them. This change shows a clear double standard in how Fox News reports on energy policy.
The facts are simple. More than 800,000 clean energy jobs are at risk. These jobs are mostly in red states. Families may pay more for electricity. Yet Fox News, once so loud about energy job losses, has gone quiet.
